We all have them in our lives, or have had at least one experience with them. And honestly, if you haven't, you're lucky, one less obsession for you.
You get along with them like vodka and cranberry juice, they are sexy like single malts, and they make you happy like champagne.
BUT you cannot have them. Why, you ask!! Good question.
There are two kinds of unattainables: the really-really-unattainable unattainables and the other unattainables.
The really-really-unattainable unattainables are the people you really-really want but they are already taken (in a serious commitment kind of a way), like marriage or super serious girlfriend or they might just be gay and you're the wrong gender. In these cases all you can possibly do is pine away and hope that one day you'll get over them. Or you can be the vamp and plot and break them up and make them fall in lurve with you. Either way, these ones are just too much work and way too messy. I'm too lazy to deal with them.
The Other unattainables on the other hand are people, usually good friends (but can just as well be strangers) who we like, love, or lust over (usually all three) and yet, cannot 'get'. The reasons for this are often very very random. Here are some examples-
- He is in a relationship with a girl he met over the internet 4 years ago and has never even seen (not even on Skype)
- He thinks of me like one of his guy friends, he even calls me dude
- I don't want to tell him that i like him in case he doesn't like me back. How embarrassing !!
- What if i fall in love with him, and he falls in love with me, but our families decide we cant be together
- Our horoscopes never match. Plus, he's a Virgo
- I don't like any of his friends. I must not really like him
- Girls cannot express interest in a guy who may/may not like them
- His last girlfriend broke his heart, now he doesn't trust girls at all
- What if i tell him, and we boink, and its really bad. I would loose a UA and a friend
- etc, etc.
Hanging out with a UA is super fun and is followed by long phone calls to your friends where you dissect every sentence uttered by him in hopes of finding flirtation, or compliments, or hints. Every drinking session with the UA is like a minefield where you have to think thrice before you say anything (and we all know how tough that is) lest you give away your deep dark secret. You're convinced that you would make a great couple but you try to tell yourself that all of his appeal is in his UA status.
I wonder if we would spend so much time on them if UAs became As. I don't think so (fingers crossed!).
